BRATISLAVA, October 19 (WEBNOVINY) – Lubomir Galko, Minister of Defense of the Slovak Republic will attend Tuesday night’s shooting exercise in the Lest military training area in central Slovakia. He will be attending the exercise right after arriving from his visit to Israel. The shooting exercise takes place as a part of the Joint Goal 2010 military exercise. Beginning at 3.00 a.m. with armored infantry vehicles attacking a position of armed insurgents. The minister together with the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces General Lubomir Bulik will hold a press conference during the exercise at 3.20 a.m. where they plan to introduce a new approach towards conducting military exercises together with the goals of the most massive military exercise in Slovakia’s modern history. The minister will also inform on the outcomes of his talks in Israel. The exercise will continue on Wednesday, October 20, with the national logistic support component deployed in the Zahorie military district.
Joint Goal 2010, the largest military exercise in modern Slovak history, began at Lest on Friday. The exercise with more than 1,600 soldiers participating together with hundreds of pieces of air and ground support is the climax of more than two years‘ training efforts under the common scenario of not only the ground forces, but basically all of Slovakia’s Armed Forces. The goal of the exercise is to exercise the command of the mechanized brigade and its subordinated units in the field of planning and conducting operations in an international environment. The exercise will also examine the readiness of the 11th mechanized battalion to accomplishing assignments within NATO operations. The eight-day exercise is conducted as ‚Deployment of the mechanized battalion group within the mechanized brigade group within a NATO military campaign aimed at supporting peace‘, which is the highest possible level of Slovakia’s national ambitions in engagement in operations outside the territory of the Slovak Republic.
