BRATISLAVA, June 9, (WEBNOVINY) — Almost a year after the parliamentary elections, chairman of the ruling coalition member the KDH party Jan Figel says that the coalition, including his party, is trying day by day and week by week to work on decent and fair politics. “We rejected lies and stealing both as a coalition and as a party,” Figel declared at a news conference. He went on to say that they have been trying to achieve these goals by fighting corruption and cronyism, in particular by promoting electronic auctions, publishing government contracts and invoices on the Internet. Together with openness in politics, the measures are already bearing fruit. According to Figel, the management of public funds is undergoing significant changes. He underscored that the Christian Democrats promoted reversing amnesties that they consider amoral into the government program, “in order to confirm that no one is above the law.” According to the party leader, passing the draft through the first reading confirms that Slovakia is able to rid itself of a burden from its past.

KDH has been supporting sober patriotism for the twenty years of its existence. In connection with the Hungarian law allowing granting dual citizenship to individuals who do not live in Hungary, they suggested talks of a mixed Slovak-Hungarian commission on an agreement to address the citizenship issue.

The bottom line for KDH’s politics is the support of traditional values. “We support the right of each individual, and the human dignity of every person. We believe that the constitution and legal order guarantee these rights sufficiently,” Figel stated. The party thus rejects displays of so-called positive discrimination in this area. That is why they rejected the proposal to establish a new Cabinet committee dedicated to the rights of non-heterosexual individuals.

Figel pointed out that the party pushed forward an amendment to the law discouraging the project of a mega casino in Bratislava. They want to continue in the fight against gambling, which is why they proposed the revision to the law on gambling operations.
