BRATISLAVA, July 29, (WEBNOVINY) — German investors in Slovakia, members of the Slovak-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, welcome the plans of the new government to revise employment legislation. In order to increase employment on the labor market, companies need a more flexible legislation, the chamber stated. The Slovak economy has been experiencing a recovery in recent months; however, according to the chamber, this has not reflected in a growth in employment, instead they believe a higher flexibility would encourage employers to hire more staff.

The Slovak-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry summarized in a six-point plan some of its proposals that could positively affect the labor market, including introducing a time account where overtime and planned work time of an employee would be calculated in order to make working hours more flexible and remunerate employees only for actual work time.

The new government should cancel the law extending the effectiveness of higher collective agreements on all companies in a sector, as the law reduces the flexibility of the affected firms. The chamber further proposes that achieving a retirement age or becoming a pensioner should automatically lead to termination of a work contract.

The Slovak-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry represents interests of 300 members who employ 72,000 people in Slovakia and achieve a turnover of EUR 13 billion. It was established in 2005 in Bratislava.
