BRATISLAVA, August 9, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic met with Speaker of the Slovak Parliament and leader of the ruling coalition party SaS, Richard Sulik, on Tuesday to discuss the future of the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF) and debt crisis in Europe. “Not reasons but only consequences of this crisis are being solved. If the economic crisis returned, it would affect Slovakia as well and the social differentiation would deepen,” reads the president’s statement presented to media by his spokesman Marek Trubac. Apart from Sulik’s stance, who refuses to support expanding the so-called temporary bailout fund, Gasparovic also wants to hear the opinions of other leaders of the coalition as well as opposition parties.
The meeting was initiated by Gasparovic, who thinks that the concerns over further spread of the crisis are justified. In the coming days, he should discuss these topics with Prime Minister Iveta Radicova (SDKU-DS). “It is necessary to discuss and look for a common solution that would be the most advantageous for Slovakia and its citizens. Even though I am sure that the impact of any solution may be troublesome for Slovakia,” opined the president.
