BRATISLAVA, October 22, (WEBNOVINY) – Slovakia will need a strong and stable government after the early elections in March, SMER-SD leader Robert Fico said on air of the Slovak Radio. His party, therefore, does not rule out cooperation with some parties, presently members of the ruling coalition. “I can imagine cooperation with KDH, with SDKU but it will be people that will decide on this. I am for a strong and stable government,” he stated. In the Saturday Dialogues political program, the opposition leader highlighted that his party preferred a government consisting of as few parties as possible.
When asked whether KDH would be a good partner for SMER-SD, Fico said it was a matter of calculations and figures. Chairman of the Christian-Democratic Movement (KDH) Jan Figel was more reserved over this issue. He emphasized that stability, responsibility and cooperation with those that honor similar values were the fundamental topics for his party .
Figel called the Cabinet’s collapse triggered by one of its parties an unprecedented step but stressed that democracy grew also from such experience. Fico confirmed that SMER-SD wanted a limited mandate for the Iveta Radicova Cabinet because it was not able to pass decisions.
