BRATISLAVA, October 26, (WEBNOVINY) — SDKU-DS Chairman and Foreign Affairs Minister Mikulas Dzurinda does not think that after she announced her decision not to run in parliamentary elections in March 2012, Prime Minister Iveta Radicova would disappear and walk away into the unknown. “She will remain prime minister representing SDKU-DS until elections on March 10, 2012. If we manage this period decently, if we achieve the budget deficit target set for this year, if we carry out necessary measures, then it will undoubtedly be a positive contribution,” the foreign affairs minister said for SITA news agency in an exclusive interview.
Radicova will devote all her attention to ruling this country, according to the party leader. This period has not been and will not be easy. “It is also about whether we can approve the budgetary responsibility bill, the draft state budget and some other bills necessary to put Slovakia on the right track. If this period is properly used, if Iveta Radicova handles it successfully with our help and support, then I assume that it will bring extra points for our party,” he emphasized.
When Dzurinda talked to the prime minister, he told her that he would be happier if she was again a party candidate. Nonetheless, he quickly saw that she was firmly decided. “As soon as she finds it appropriate, she will tell us how and whether she will participate in the election campaign,” he noted.
In 2006, SDKU-DS without Radicova garnered roughly as many votes as in the following elections in 2010 featuring Radicova as the party election leader. “Time goes by. There are different problems. I think that our party will be if not stronger then at least as strong as it was in the previous elections,” he predicted. During its eleven-year existence, SDKU-DS has evolved into a party with probably the strongest professional base.
