BRATISLAVA, February 16, (WEBNOVINY) – Miloslava Zemkova will officially become the first Director General of the public service broadcaster Radio and Television of Slovakia (RTVS) Thursday. She will be appointed to the post in the historical building of Slovak Parliament at 9 a.m. The letters of appointment will be handed over to nine members of the Council of RTVS as well, informed Beata Skyvova of the Parliament’s Office.
The new super-broadcaster, RTVS was established on January 1 of this year by merging Slovak Television and Slovak Radio. Zemkova who was previously a head of the Slovak Radio was also acting director general until the elections. Parliament voted Zemkova for the post on February 10 in a public vote for five-year term in the office. Deputies chose Ildiko Nagyova, Vladimir Slovak, Vladimir Talian as members of the RTVS Council for radio broadcasting; Milan Antol, Andrej Miklanek and Dora Hushegyiova for television broadcasting and Martin Kabat and Miroslav Kollar for economy. The legal area will be represented in the council by Michal Jesenko.
The Director General decides on all issues that are not exclusively in the competence of the council. She appoints her two deputies; one for radio and one for television. The RTVS Council proposes the concept of managing and development of the broadcaster and its program service, draft budget and informs about contracts for more than two years and for sums above EUR 100,000. Deputies did not manage to raise the salary of the RTVS head. The Director General will receive EUR 3,000 per month instead of the suggested EUR 5,000. Until the RTVS Council approves the budget submitted by the head of RTVS, the institution will operate with a provisional budget.
