BRATISLAVA, May 16, (WEBNOVINY) — The police is no longer investigating the case of suspected buying of deputy votes during last year’s election of the new prosecutor general in the Slovak Parliament in December. The Office of the Special Prosecution confirmed that on May 9, the police issued a resolution ending the investigation regarding buying of deputy votes, concluding that the deed had not happened, explained Jana Tokolyova from Press and Information Department at the General Prosecutor’s Office.
The parliament failed to elect a prosecutor general in two rounds of two secrete ballots. The coalition had its own candidate Jozef Centes. In the third election, however, some coalition deputies supported the opposition candidate Dobroslav Trnka, too, who was just one vote short of being elected. On December 7, 2010, the ruling coalition obstructed the vote by not casting their ballots.
On Tuesday, May 17, the parliament is to hold a repeated secret ballot, where Trnka is the only candidate, as Centes withdrew his candidacy last Friday.
