BRATISLAVA, January 30, (WEBNOVINY) – The strongest opposition party SMER-SD is planning to examine acting of Speaker of the Slovak Parliament, SaS leader Richard Sulik at the time when he chaired the BoD at OLO, a provider of municipal waste disposal service. SMER deputy Marek Madaric said in the Na Telo political program on TV Markiza that Sulik sold a track of land to himself and profited on its subsequent sale. Culture Minister Daniel Krajcer (SaS) countered that his party has no problem with a potential probation. Madaric mentioned the examination in relation to Andrej Durkovsky and his decision to quit KDH. The minister replied that Madaric does not have the right to judge the situation in KDH and draw a general opinion on the acting of the whole coalition from this case. In his words, SaS has given space to KDH to resolve the problem within the party.
SMER-SD respects the rulings of the Constitutional Court issued this week in relation to the expropriation of land for highway construction and the profit ban imposed by the previous government on health insurance companies, but does not greet them, said Madaric. He opines that health insurers will have profits from the citizens’ money and highway construction will stop in the future as a result of these decisions. Krajcer, in reaction, called upon the previous Cabinet to apologize for those laws. He admits that the aim and purpose might have been good but the outcome was bad.
The two politicians also tackled dual citizenship. The SMER deputy is of the opinion that Prime Minister Iveta Radicova has found herself under pressure from the opposition and Igor Matovic, leader of Ordinary People serving in the parliament in the SaS faction. Matovic has namely suggested other rules for dual citizenship than those in the current law or those proposed in the draft revision presented by the governing coalition. Madaric underpins his opinion also by the agreement between Slovakia and Hungary discussed by Radicova and her Hungarian partner Viktor Orban on Friday.
