Slovakia's Foreign Trade Gap in December Was EUR 193M

BRATISLAVA, February 9, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovakia’s trade balance in the last month of 2010 posted a deficit of EUR 193 million, according to preliminary data of the Statistic Office of the Slovak Republic. December exports reached EUR 4 billion; up 22.2 percent y/y. Imports totaled EUR 4.193 million, up 25.7 percent y/y.

In the January-December period of 2010, the Statistics Office reported a 22.5-percent increase in exports to EUR 48.651 billion and a 24.9-percent growth in imports to EUR 48.442 billion. Foreign trade thus closed last year with a surplus of EUR 209.3 million.

In the eleventh month of last year Slovakia’s trade surplus reached EUR 46.4 million after the Statistics Office revised downwards the preliminary figure of EUR 67 million. The office reported a trade surplus of EUR 402.2 million in the eleven-month period, according to revised figures, as opposed to the previously reported EUR 479.4 million.

In November, total exports went up 23.6 percent to EUR 4.831 billion compared with the same period a year ago. In the eleven-month period, exports totaled EUR 44.651 billion, up 22.5 percent y/y. In November, total imports swelled 26.3 percent y/y to EUR 4.784 billion. In the January-November period, imports totaled EUR 44.248 billion, up 24.9 percent.
