BRATISLAVA, July 23, (WEBNOVINY)- Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic has sent a telegram of sympathy to Norwegian King Harald to express deep grief following the two attacks in Norway that claimed over 90 deaths. The head of state writes that he was deeply touched when he heard of innocent victims, seriously injured people and material damages claimed by these reckless and absurd acts. He asked the King to offer the deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those injured and killed in his name and also on behalf of Slovak citizens.
Prime Minister Iveta Radicova sent a letter of condolences to her Norwegian counterpart Jens Stoltenberg regarding the attacks in the government district of Oslo and a shooting spree on the Island of Utoeya. She considers the happenings in Norway an attack on democratic values and principles that Norway represents not only at its European home but all around the world. She assured her counterpart that the Slovak Republic and its citizens stand with the people of Norway as close friends and partners. She wished the country a lot of life force and energy.
Foreign Minister Mikulas Dzurinda expressed as well deep sympathy and solidarity in connection with extremely tragic events in Oslo that resulted in many deaths and injuries. He resolutely condemns the acts of violence and expresses conviction that their masterminds will be brought to responsibility and receive their deserved punishment. The Slovak Foreign Ministry has been monitoring the situation in Norway since Friday. According to the latest information no citizen of Slovakia is among the killed or injured.
A suspected far-right gunman in police uniform killed at least 84 people in a ferocious attack on Friday on a youth summer camp of Norway’s ruling Labor Party, hours after a bomb killed seven in Oslo. The police identified the gunman as a 32-year-old Norwegian.
