BRATISLAVA, July 20, (WEBNOVINY) – Regardless of the future of the European Union, Slovakia has to be at its very core, said Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak after Friday’s meeting of the government’s Solidarity and Development Council’s. „We are not talking about a bailout of Greece or Spanish banks, but stabilization of our own currency, the euro,“ he said.

As Lajcak went on to say, an alternative another than deeper integration does not exist. „No one has introduced any other alternative; we have no opportunity or a chance to just pick raisins from a cake. People who say there exists an alternative are either lying or do not know what they are saying,“ said Lajcak.

Lajcak believes Slovakia has a chance to get into the elite club of the European Union. „All that depends on what politics we have, how responsible it will be, or how we will meet the prescribed criteria, so that no one could question that Slovakia belongs to the closest center,“ said Lajcak.

The Solidarity and Development Council among others also addressed Slovakia’s rotating presidency of the EU Council that will start in 2016. „It will be necessary to adopt some decisions, such as what ambitions our presidency will have and of course how much will it cost us,“ said Lajcak.
