SENEC, September 25, (WEBNOVINY) — Jan Kovacik (48) was elected new president of the Slovak Football Association. He was elected already in the first round of voting by delegates at the electoral conference in Senec on Saturday, September 25.
Jan Kovacik is the owner of production house and Forza and the football club FK Dukla Banska Bystrica. He will be the third president of the Slovak Football Association after Milan Sluzanic (1992 – 1999) and Frantisek Laurinec (1999 – 2010).
Kovacik won the votes 126 votes of delegates from a total of 154 possible votes, but overall there were only 153 ballots valid.
„That number is so high that it is a big commitment for me. I want to promise that I will serve in this post as well as I can. And since you will now vote to elect my closest colleagues, I want to ask you to proceed very responsibly and with forethought. Vote in a way to elect people would be compatible with me,” Kovacik said after his election.
Of the defeated challengers, the former Slovak national football team coach Dusan Galis received 26 votes and four delegates voted for Lubomir Luhovy.
