BRATISLAVA, September 30, (WEBNOVINY) — The liberal member of the ruling coalition, the Freedom and Solidarity party (SaS) will not prevent other eurozone members from using their own money to bail out other countries, SaS Deputy Chairman and Defense Minister Lubomir Galko told SITS news agency. “SaS has no interest in blocking this process. Our duty is to protect the money of Slovak taxpayers. Nothing has changed there. We still object to the bailout fund in the form proposed today. The EFSF in its current form is unacceptable and SaS will not support it,” Galko further said.
Prime Minister Iveta Radicova is leading negotiations with the SaS party to win its support for increasing the powers of the eurozone bailout fund. The liberal party has been opposing the mechanism from the start. Without its votes, the ruling coalition does not have the majority to endorse it. The strongest opposition party SMER-SD that in principle does not object to the bailout fund refuses to support the changes to the EFSF in parliament without the support of the entire ruling coalition.
