Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister is Visiting Slovakia

BRATISLAVA, February 17, (WEBNOVINY) – Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodor Baconschi is visiting Slovakia on Thursday. It is his first ever visit here. High on the agenda of talks with his Slovak counterpart Mikulas Dzurinda was the ninetieth anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between their countries. The Slovak minister said on this occasion that both countries have much more in common than not. Both countries support further extension of the EU. Romania is active in Eastern Partnership as well as in the Western Balkans, which are also Slovakia’s priorities. According to minister Baconschi, the countries are “close in opinions”. Slovakia was one of the first countries which ratified the EU accession agreement with Romania and one of the first countries which opened the market. Romania is to enter the eurozone in 2015 and the Schengen zone in the near future. Dzurinda expressed support to Romania’s joining the Schengen zone at the following news conference.

The Slovak and Romanian foreign affairs ministers spoke also about energy security, the Danube Strategy, and the EU policy of Roma inclusion. In addition to rich mutual trade, Romania would like to intensify also cultural cooperation. According to Baconschi, his government will support Romania’s ambassador in Slovakia to implement changes on the level of chambers of commerce.
