BRATISLAVA, May 5, (WEBNOVINY) — The Office of Prosecutor General will decide on the proposal of the police investigator to strip ex-Construction Minister and MP for the opposition SNS, Igor Stefanov of his deputy immunity from prosecution by the end of this week. Former Prosecutor General and now Deputy PG responsible for the penal section Dobroslav Trnka told journalists on Thursday that the acting Prosecutor General Ladislav Tichy will make the expected decision by this Friday.

Trnka, however, does not like that media and politicians exert pressures on Tichy to deliver a proposal to parliament for stripping MP Stefanov of his immunity. “It did not come up to me even in a dream that we will return two thousand years back and I will be hearing here to somebody leading a crowd shouting: Hand him over to us!,” said Trnka adding that Tichy is not Pontius Pilate.

At the beginning of March, police investigator asked the prosecution to ask parliament to lift the immunity of opposition SNS MP Igor Stefanov. Stefanov is one of five accused in the case of the so-called bulletin-board tender. The investigator is pressing charges against four of them, including Stefanov’s predecessor Marian Janusek; Stefanov is still protected by his immunity. Stefanov became minister after Marian Janusek, whom the SNS was forced to withdraw under pressure from Prime Minister Robert Fico due to the bulletin-board tender case, which was won by a consortium of two SNS-friendly companies. Later, Fico withdrew Stefanov as well. After Stefanov’s accusation was published, he attacked Interior Minister Lipsic by publishing the „information“ that forty MPs had been wiretapped.
