BRUSSELS/BRATISLAVA, January 30, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovak Prime Minister Iveta Radicova (SDKU-DS) thinks that increasing further the bailout fund for Greece is not sustainable. “I think that we all have reached the cap, that it is not possible to proceed like this forever,” the prime minister said before Monday’s informal meeting of EU leaders in Brussels. She further said that additional increase in financial means to already approved Greek bailout of 130 billion euros would be a too big burden for particular countries.

At the same time the prime minister rejects the unofficial proposal of some EU countries, according to which Athens should hand over control over their fiscal policy to EU institutions. “Such an institute has not been anchored in existing treaties to date and it would mean moving a large part of sovereignty to an institute that is not anchored in the treaty,” Radicova stated. However, she admitted that some mechanisms to improve enforcement of compliance with the approved procedures are necessary.
