BRATISLAVA, February 21, (WEBNOVINY) – The Crazy Shops chain in Slovakia will lose ground after President Ivan Gasparovic has signed an amendment to the law on narcotics, psychotropic substances and preparations. The amendment elaborated by the Ministry of Health and adopted by the Parliament on February 11, which becomes valid as of March, extends the list of narcotics and psychotropic substances by 43. Among them is the infamous mephedrone, recently banned in 13 EU countries, which is part of various “souvenirs” sold in the Crazy Shops chain. The substances prohibited by this amendment are highly addictive and substituting them with more serious drugs is highly probable. According to Health Minister Ivan Uhliarik (KDH), approximately 40 people have already died in Europe after consuming mephedrone.
As the President’s spokesman Marek Trubac further informed, Gasparovic has also signed an amendment to the law on war graves. It was adopted by the Parliament on February 8 and will treat into force on April 1. It is supposed to eliminate problematic situations, which might rise up in connection to burying a war victim in Slovakia, after the remains are transported from another country. The law introduces an obligation of the municipality, where the war victim was born, to establish a war grave, as until now the entire procedure was complicated and took too long. The amendment shall also make it easier for municipalities to maintain war graves. Also financing legal entities, which take care of war graves, should be less problematic.
Ivan Gasparovic signed eight draft bills at the beginning of the week amending the labor code, the law on banks, the law on organizing the state support of research and development, the law on trading emission allowances, the law on forest reproductive material and to the law on archives and registries and the two above-mentioned bills.
