BRATISLAVA, May 16, (WEBNOVINY) — Prime Minister Iveta Radicova plans a libel lawsuit against the opposition SMER-SD Chairman Robert Fico. She is irritated by the statements Fico made at a press conference on Friday, May 13, where he maintained that Jozef Centes‘ decision to not run for the post of prosecutor general ignores the decision of the Constitutional Court and that it would be legally effective only if he had done so before December 2, 2010. Fico also claimed that Radicova had somehow forced Centes to give up his candidacy.

“Now we can see that security studies Associate Professor Robert Fico lacks the capability to interpret a decision of the Constitutional Court. He even lacks the ability to read it carefully. He is probably not aware that in a free society, no one can force a person to run for office. This is a right and the candidate may waive it freely, as Assistant Professor Centes has done,” said Radicova on Monday, according to information of the Press Department of the Cabinet Office. The prime minister also underlined that Fico used to represent Slovakia at the Strasbourg-based International Court for Human Rights, where he did not win a single case. “That’s enough,” commented Radicova on Fico’s statements.

Jozef Centes, candidate of the ruling coalition, gave up his candidacy for the office of the prosecutor general after doubts arose after the last secret ballot. Currently, only Dobroslav Trnka, incumbent and candidate for the opposition, is running for the office. The repeated vote, based on the decision of the Constitutional Court, will take place this Tuesday.
