BRATISLAVA, October 7, (WEBNOVINY) — No prisoner in Slovakia will currently be rewarded by a permission to go home for a couple of days. The reason is the incident of the prisoner Lubos Kracunik, whose permitted leave has evolved into an escape attempt with sexual violence. „I have issued an instruction for all directors of correctional institutions in Slovakia to stop all permissions to leave the institution to the sentenced, that means permitting an extraordinary leave of the institution, leave, and spent time outside the institution,“ said the chief of the Correctional and Courtroom Security Corps Robert Mudroncek at the extraordinary briefing on Thursday. The measure is temporary until such a system measures is adopted that will minimize the risk of possible defections of the sentenced outside the prison.
At the beginning of next week, Justice Minister Lucia Zitnanska will have on her desk a complex report about the case of Kracunik. „We will then be able to evaluate who individually failed and to draw potential responsibility, if an individual failure is identified,“ Zitnanska said.
Minister Zitnanska is convinced the problem is in the system. „There are no clear and exact rules according to which the sentenced may be released outside the institution,“ she said. According to her it is a mistake that rules are not in place as to who can not be rewarded by a permission to leave the prison. „This case has shown that there are holes in the system and we are trying to minimize this risk now,“ said Zitnanska. She thinks that after four years, the Correctional and Courtroom Security Corps need stabilization and new rules. Mudroncek has full confidence of the minister.
Former police officer Lubos Kracunik was allegedly convicted six times for violent crimes; he was currently serving a sentence for robbery and sexual violence of 10.5 years. It is not known whether the court ordered treatment of his sexual disorder. He received a permission to leave the institution in Presov for October 1-4, but he did not return to the prison. In Roznava, he raped a 14-year-old-girl and also committed a sexual violence on a receptionist in a hotel. Police caught him hiding in the bushes on Thursday following a tip-off.
