BRATISLAVA, April 4, (WEBNOVINY) — Newly appointed Foreign Affairs Minister of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajcak is convinced that Slovakia and Hungary can expect good neighborly relations, which will reflect our shared history and the fact that both countries are members of the EU and NATO. „I expect our government and the Hungarian one to primarily devote their attention to addressing their challenges in economic and social areas facing every country in Europe,“ Lajcak told the media on Wednesday after he was appointed into office. „When there are any [open] questions, we will address them at the negotiating table and we will issue opinions not based on impressions and feelings, but based on an analysis and a comparison of the real state of affairs with European standards,“ said new chief of Slovak diplomacy.
On the issue of Kosovo, Minister Lajcak said the position of Slovakia is derived from the resolution of the Slovak Parliament. But, as he said, Slovakia supports all the processes that lead to an improvement of the situation in the Balkans. Lajcak also wishes that Slovakia is a reliable, stable, and predictable partner and member of the EU. Minister Lajcak said he does not plan any premature replacements in positions in the Slovak diplomatic corps. „I do not intend to bring any revolution into the department,“ he said. On the other hand, Minister Lajcak said he wants to get acquainted in detail with what happened in the department over the past twenty months and will order an internal audit.
