BRATISLAVA, November 19, (WEBNOVINY) — Jan Figel will run again for the post of leader of the ruling coalition member, the Christian-Democratic Movement (KDH), at the party congress in December. He does not have an opponent. “I will run mainly because of a sense of responsibility. Not because I cannot imagine easier work, because it is a difficult post, and already a year ago I said that I was not looking for it, but it was like it found me. I associate it also with being active in the movement for twenty-years and also with its overall situation several years ago,” Figel told SITA news service.
On Saturday, the KDH council will devote attention to preparation of the KDH congress to be held on December 4 in Trnava. The council is to approve nominations for party chairman and deputy chairpersons, as well as a propose changes to the statutes. For instance, Zilina and Banska Bystrica Counties have proposed to reduce the number of deputy chairpersons from six to four. The congress will elect the top representatives of the party for a four-year term for the first time.
Figel did not want to say whether he would support re-electing the current six deputy chairpersons Daniel Lipsic, Jana Zitnanska, Ivan Uhliarik, Maria Sabolova, Anton Marcincin, and Julius Brocka. “I am not the only ‘shareholder’ of KDH as it is in state-run firms, where the minister represents the state,” he remarked. According to him, KDH is a democratic structure which holds its internal freedom, but also responsibility for personnel, political and program issues. He added that the party will evaluate its work at the congress, which in line with new rules will be held always within six months of parliamentary elections. “They are an evaluation report, but also a new period, which opens with the elections and therefore everyone will be evaluated at the congress,” Figel concluded.
