RUZOMBEROK, September 25, (WEBNOVINY) — Delegates to the 17th congress of the Slovak National Party (SNS) again elected Jan Slota as party chairman. In a public vote, he received votes of 180 delegates. His challenger and deputy chairperson of the party Anna Belousovova received 45 votes and Dusan Svantner 40 votes. Former Supreme Court Judge Tibor Safarik received 6 votes. A total of 271 ballots were handed out to delegates. SITA was informed about the outcome of the leadership vote by delegates from the assembly hall. The results of the vote have not yet been officially confirmed. The congress voted to hold a public vote in the leadership elections, as party statutes require. This proposal was supported by 159 delegates.
According to unofficial information from delegates, the SNS congress elected Andrej Danko from Miloslavov as the first deputy chairman of the Slovak National Party. Other deputy chairmen are Peter Petko of Spisska Nova Ves, Jan Ikrenyi from Sturovo and SNS parliamentary deputy Rafael Rafaj.
Anna Belousovova said after the vote that she considers the SNS leadership elections undemocratic, but said she would not challenge the results. She told media that she remains a member of the SNS, but she is establishing an internal party platform.
