BRATISLAVA, October 14, (WEBNOVINY) — Illegal migrants will have to be handcuffed when they are escorted by police, Interior Minister Daniel Lipsic decided Thursday after three foreigners escaped from a police car as they were escorted by two officers of Border and Foreigner Police on Wednesday. As a consequence, Lipsic sacked the head of the mobile unit of the Police Corps‘ Border and Foreigner Police. At the same time, disciplinary proceedings began in case of the two members of the escort, the spokesman of the Interior Ministry Gabor Grendel informed.

The investigation of the case has revealed several errors conducted regarding the escort, such as insufficient number of policemen providing the escort, inadequate securing of the escort as well as slip-ups of the guard during handover of the illegal migrants to the police detention facility for illegal migrants in Medvedov, Grendel said. Despite immediate effort of several police units, the migrants have not been found. Grendel added that police learnt from international databases [based on found Moroccan passports — editor’s note] that the escapees are not recorded as dangerous criminals but regular migrants whose probable intention was to pass across Slovakia further to the west.
