BRATISLAVA, June 5, (WEBNOVINY) – The use of medical marijuana, as promoted by the SaS party, requires a large expert discussion, according to Health Minister and Deputy Chairman of the KDH party Ivan Uhliarik. “At the moment, we have enough medicines to help our patients. We cannot comment on this until a debate between doctors and those who would eventually use the substance for medical purposes is held,” stated Uhliarik in an interview for SITA news agency.
The liberal member of Slovakia’s four-party ruling coalition, the SaS party, said on Friday it will promote the legalization of medicinal use of cannabis in Slovakia. SaS deputy Peter Kalist announced this at a press meeting in Bratislava. The liberals will also champion impunity for patients that will use cannabis in the treatment. Kalist underscored that there were other drugs that were more dangerous, sleeping pills, for example. He emphasized that if Slovakia approved the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes, it would join countries such as Canada, the Czech Republic or Austria.
