BRATISLAVA, December 4, (WEBNOVINY) – If Prime Minister Iveta Radicova resigned from her post over the election of new prosecutor general, the current coalition parties would not be able to form a coalition in the same composition, stated deputy for the KDH party Radoslav Prochazka on air of the public-service Slovak Radio (SRo) within political debate program titled Saturday’s Dialogues. To coalition deputies who supported Dobroslav Trnka for the post of prosecutor general in Thursday’s vote, he said that if they think they can replace the prime minister while the coalition will go on with a new prime minister, they are mistaken. According to him, if the prime minister fell, as she announced she would consider resigning if Dobroslav Trnka was re-elected, the only relevant candidate to form a coalition with the strongest parliamentary party, the opposition SMER-SD is the SDKU-DS party. He assumes that the SDKU-DS is the only party that would benefit from such situation. Prochazka stated that if SDKU-DS deputies did not support Trnka in the latest vote, “Trnka did not get a single vote from the coalition”.
Chairman of the opposition SMER-SD party and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Robert Fico commented that the current situation is a culmination of the fact that the ruling coalition is a cluster of too many center-right parties. Fico rejected allegations that his party has tried to influence the vote or buy coalition deputies. “I am not responsible for the mess and chaos in the ruling coalition,” he remarked. Fico restated that Thursday’s vote of prosecutor general had nothing to do with a secrete vote. He also questioned the coalition’s control mechanisms. Fico alleges that Prime Minister Iveta Radicova is severely threatening the deputies. Radoslav Prochazka ruled out that the prime minister’s statement considering her resignation if Trnka is re-elected is a way of pressuring the deputies. He concluded by saying that the coalition has yet to decide on how to proceed on Tuesday, when the vote is to be repeated.
On Thursday, the Parliament held a secrete vote on prosecutor general. Dobroslav Trnka, supported by the opposition, received more votes than the candidate of the ruling coalition, which has majority in the Parliament, meaning that some coalition deputies voted for Trnka instead of the coalition’s candidate Jozef Centes. All four coalition members deny that their deputies supported the opposition’s candidate.
