BRATISLAVA, October 14, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovak water management company SVP will continue analyzing water quality in the Danube River only once a week. In case of intensive rainfalls, monitoring will be extended to twice a week. From results of measurements of pH (acidity and alkalinity of the water) which were made last week and this week and also results of analyses of heavy metals content in the monitored section it is clear that these indicators are within the permitted range and are stabilized.
Dead fish in the Danube River came from its tributaries in Hungary, Spokesman of the Slovak Environment Inspection Michal Stefanek informed SITA.
On October 4, 160 kilometers west of Budapest, a reservoir with about 750,000 cubic meters of highly alkaline red sludge from an aluminum plant burst and flooded seven villages, killing nine people.
