TORNALA, March 31, (SITA) – Ladislav Dubovsky, former mayor of the town of Tornala in southern Slovakia, probably hanged himself in the hospital for the accused and committed in Trencin. As the Ministry of Interior spokesman Peter Bubla told SITA, it is suspected that he committed suicide early this Thursday.
“The hospital’s personnel immediately gave him first aid and the emergency rescue service was called immediately, but despite their efforts they did not manage to save his life,” said the spokesman. He added that the accused was regularly monitored by psychiatric staff since he was hospitalized. The last time they checked him was this morning.
Dubovsky was accused of violation of duties in handling entrusted property and abusing the powers of a public office holder. In February, the trial was postponed twice due to his hospitalization. The former mayor was imprisoned in September 2010, after police arrested him in Gemerska Horka. He had been wanted since July 2010, when he escaped a police patrol escorting him to questioning by police investigators in the town of Revuca.
