BRATISLAVA, November 30, (WEBNOVINY) — Current commander of the Slovak Training and Support Forces of the Slovak Republic, Major-General Peter Vojtek should become the new Chief of the General Staff, replacing General Lubomir Bulik. This stems from a proposal submitted to the Cabinet by Prime Minister Iveta Radicova, who is also authorized to head the Defense Ministry.
General Bulik decided to leave the post some time ago based on an agreement with former Defense Minister Lubomir Galko. After the government collapsed, Galko withdrew the proposal to dismiss Bulik. President Ivan Gasparovic, however, decided that a publicly announced change in the army command can not be taken back. The proposal to dismiss Bulik was on the agenda of the Cabinet’s session two weeks ago, but the discussion was interrupted as the Cabinet wanted to have his successor approved before it lets Bulik go.
The Cabinet is to approve a draft treaty between EU member states and Croatia on its accession to the European Union. According to estimates, the ratification process by individual 27 members should be completed by June 30, 2013 and Croatia could become EU member as of July 1, 2013.
