BRATISLAVA, September 21, (WEBNOVINY) — After elaborating the concept of fight against tax evasion, the Finance Ministry comes with specific measures which should bring additional over 30 million euros into state coffers next year. On Wednesday, the Cabinet adopted a draft amendment to the law on excise tax on mineral oils. The draft was adopted with comments and also amends other laws on excise taxes.

The draft among others changes the scheduled increase of the excise tax on tobacco products from March 1, 2013 to February 1, 2012. According to Finance Minister Ivan Miklos, the Cabinet changed the original draft and the 2012 increase will only be partial, followed by another one in 2013. “It will be 55.7 euros per thousand pieces in the first and 58 euros in the second phase,” informed Miklos on details of the increase. The minister also explained that increasing the tax in two phases should reduce the differences between cigarette prices in Slovakia and in the surrounding countries, bringing some 31 million euros to the state budget in 2011.

The ministry proposed increasing the tax on heating oil and introducing a tax on lubricants and other oils through the amendment as well. In addition to increasing tax rates, the amendment also introduces new measures for fighting tax evasion while also creating an environment for introducing the Unitas project of unified collection of taxes, customs duties, and payroll levies.
