BRATISLAVA, November 27, (WEBNOVINY)- Voting in Saturday’s municipal elections in Slovakia ended. Over 4.3 million eligible voters picked mayors and local councilors for the next four years in the race.

Several suspicions of vote buying have been reported to the Central Election Commission. The police are already dealing with them. The most frequent problem was violation of the election moratorium The municipal election law is very general in this area and does not sanction all ways of campaigning to the benefit of or against candidates. The Central Election Commission thus appealed earlier in the day on organs of public power to implement respective legislative changes to eliminate the ambiguities in the law.

Altogether 5,952 polling stations were open on Saturday. Every person with permanent residence in Slovakia who is 18 or older was eligible to vote for representatives. Voters do not need to be citizens of Slovakia; they can also be foreign citizens with permanent residence.

The first, unofficial results are expected to be published already before 21:00 on the election day. Official results will be published the morning after the elections. The results will be published on the Statistics Office’s website www.statistics.sk and on external website www.volbysr.sk.
