BRATISLAVA, July 13, (WEBNOVINY) — After the amendment to the Labor Code was adopted on the Slovak Parliament on Wednesday, the trade unions said that want to interrupt social dialogue, as, according to OZ KOVO Chairman Emil Machyna, it was seriously trampled upon by the government. “I’ll propose that we leave the tripartite, to interrupt social dialogue, because this was a serious violation of social dialogue,” stated Machyna after the parliament adopted the Labor Code on Wednesday.

OZ KOVO also plans “decisive pressure actions,” which are to be expected this autumn. “We’ve got enough time to get prepared and to convince people to join,” Machyna said. According to his words, the adopted amendment to the Labor Code will damage the rights of the unions and of employees.

The unions have been criticizing several provisions of the amendment, which, according to them, could harm the employees, such as allowing more overtime work. “Today, people will work three or four months more only because someone approved it for them,” Machyna underlined.

Slovak lawmakers gave the go-ahead to the amendment to the Labor Code in the final third reading. Seventy-four of one hundred forty-four deputies present voted in its favor, seventy legislators were opposed. If the president signs it, the amendment will come into force in September.
