BRATISLAVA, April 14, (WEBNOVINY) — Iveta Radicova is a totally weak and disorganized prime minister, who has committed several counts of election fraud [… „lying“ to voters — SITA note] in the short period in the post. “On Wednesday, she took off her mask as a prime minister resistant to theft. Behind this mask is a politician who can without hesitation, with the use of lies, cover up a partisan deal of the SDKU-DS,” announced opposition leader Robert Fico at Thursday’s news conference. According to him, instead of having head of the Tax Directorate Miroslav Mikulcik fired as a starter and dismissing Finance Minister Ivan Miklos as the main course, she announced to the whole of Slovakia that it was all right for Mikulcik, under the guidance of the finance minister, to sign a lease contract for a building owned by a chairman of the SDKU-DS regional structure in Nitra. According to Fico, the prime minister is lying when she says that there are no Slovaks behind the Cypriot firm which is a partner in Nitra Invest. She lied, as she knew they were just front men.
Fico maintains that standing behind the Tax Directorate’s chief, she identified herself with SDKU funding, due to which Mikulas Dzurinda stepped down from the candidate list before the last parliamentary elections. “She knows how state money flows into the SDKU-DS coffers and SDKU-DS politicians. The acts she committed are incompatible with the post of Slovakia’s prime minister,” Fico stressed.
If the prime minister does not recall Finance Minister Ivan Miklos from his post, SMER-SD will demand convening a parliamentary session to hold a no-confidence vote on the prime minister. SMER-SD does not support holding frequent no-confidence votes, but if there is a serious reason, no other option is acceptable. The parliamentary session should be held after the Easter holidays. Signatures of thirty deputies are required in order to convene an unscheduled session. Seventy-six votes are needed to express no-confidence in the prime minister. The current opposition does not have enough votes for that. According to Fico, Radicova could still dismiss Miklos. He also called on other members of the ruling coalition to pressure Radicova to sack Miklos.
Opposition SMER-SD leader Robert Fico accused Director of the Tax Directorate Miroslav Mikulcik, appointed by Minister of Finance Ivan Miklos, of having secured a multi-million euro deal for regional head of SDKU-DS in Nitra Ondrej Scurko. Fico referred to leasing the building for Tax Office in Kosice for which the Tax Directorate was to pay about EUR 6.6 million over five years as a perfect example of cronyism and therefore Finance Minister Miklos should resign. Fico added that it was very probable that part of this sum would end up in SDKU’s purse.
