LISBON, November 20, (WEBNOVINY) – Slovakia is very pleased with the new NATO strategic concept, Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic, MFA Mikulas Dzurinda and Defense Minister Lubomir Galko agreed on Friday, at the NATO summit in Lisbon. The three politicians confirmed that the concept was approved on the first day of the 2-day meeting. According to them, the document meets Bratislava’s requirements and takes into account all priorities of the Slovak Republic.
Gasparovic commented that the Friday’s meeting was a great success attributable particularly to activities of the NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen. The greenlighted concept takes into consideration Slovakia’s fundamental requirements: observance of the Article 5 in the NATO Charter about protection of member states; consensual decision-making within the bloc and energy security. The head of the Slovak Republic also praised the “new level of ties” within the NATO-Russia and NATO-EU partnerships.
Defense Minister Galko highlighted “many open opinions” presented at the summit, and MFA Dzurinda underscored “the importance of open door policy regarding countries of the Westen Balkans”.
