BRATISLAVA, October 22, (WEBNOVINY) – Slovak Economy Minister Tomas Malatinsky sees the current economic crisis as an opportunity rather than a threat. „It is important whether in the current situation we will only defend ourselves against effects of the crisis, or use it as an opportunity to launch a new quality of growth. And here it is good to draw inspiration from those who are best,“ said the Economy Minister before the working visit to Denmark, where he will accompany Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic later this week. In Denmark, the minister would like to seek projects focused on innovation. „Innovations are deemed vital to ensure competitiveness and economic growth. They essentially represent the ability to see in changes an opportunity and not a threat,“ said Malatinsky.
Denmark is the twentieth most important export market for Slovakia and fifteenth largest investor. Companies from Denmark in Slovakia created more than 6,500 jobs. Denmark is characterized by a sophisticated modern market economy with latest technologies in agriculture, highly advanced industry, with state of the art world’s leading companies in the pharmaceutical, maritime transport and renewable energy sectors. „This country has come this far thanks to innovation,“ said Malatinsky.
In the first half of the year Slovakia exported goods and services to Denmark valued at EUR 231 million. In the other direction, Slovakia imported goods and services from Denmark for EUR 110 million. For the whole of last year, Slovakia’s exports to Denmark totaled EUR 379 million with imports of EUR 225 million. „Slovakia has a long-term surplus in trade with Denmark,“ said the Economy Ministry.
