BRATISLAVA, December 3, (WEBNOVINY) — The ruling coalition will have to begin functioning differently, believes MOST-HID party chairman Bela Bugar. „This year, I am willing to understand that there are certain problems, but next year the coalition must work otherwise,“ Bugar told reporters on Friday. According to him, the unsuccessful election of a new prosecutor general in parliament is only a very bad start. „But for me personally, I am most concerned what would happen if we as a coalition ended. I believe that nobody wants to help the return of the government of Robert Fico or his party SMER-SD into government,“ he said.

According to Bugar, confidence in the coalition was first undermined when one coalition faction began to speculate about support for candidates between Dobroslav Trnka and Jan Hrivnak. „My confidence was shaken then,“ he said. Confidence was shaken when the three coalition parties suggested to withdraw the candidacy of Eva Misikova for the post of prosecutor general and instead all would support [SDKU-DS candidate – editor’s note] Hrivnak. „Then, it was not accepted and we did not understand why,“ he said.

However, Bugar is convinced that the government will not be brought down after the next round of election of the prosecutor general in parliament on Tuesday. „We must find a way to ensure victory of the ruling coalition’s candidate. We have one last chance this year to restore the undermined confidence in some way,“ he said.

The ruling coalition failed on Thursday to elect its candidate Josef Centes at the next prosecutor general for a seven-year term. At least four coalition MPs supported the opposition candidate, incumbent Dobroslav Trnka, who was not elected by just a single vote.
