BRATISLAVA, July 2, (WEBNOVINY) – Chief of the National Security Office Frantisek Blanarik, a nominee of the People’s Party-Movement for Democratic Slovakia (LS-HZDS), will remain in office at least until September. SaS Chairman Richard Sulik has announced that lawmakers will not elect a new director of the authority at the current parliamentary session. The elections are to be held at the session that will start on September 6.

The liberal party has not been able to win the support of its coalition partners for its candidates since March, when Blanarik announced that he is stepping down. Sulik ascribes this situation to different opinions in the coalition. “We have had several honest attempts, they simply failed. It has to be acknowledged that if we are in a coalition with several partners, everyone has their own ideas,” he observed.

Blanarik announced his resignation in March soon after the coalition shifted their focus on his past. The media informed that he allegedly had been reporting on his colleagues to the military counterintelligence when he served in the army before the Velvet Revolution in 1989. Jan Stano did not get the coalition’s support because he had worked for the intelligence service, the SIS in the era of Ivan Lexa. The spy service is suspected to have been involved in illegal activities at that time. The nomination of Peter Paluda failed due to objections raised by SDKU-DS. Supreme Court Judge Juraj Kliment decided not to run for the post because he was not supported by the entire coalition.
